Jewish Resources at Queen's

At Queen's University, there are only two Jewish resources for students- Hillel and Chabad. Both organizations work in unison to ensure that each Friday night, Jewish students have a place to go for Shabbat dinner. The two organizations take turns weekly hosting. On top of providing dinner to students, these organizations also do fundraisers during the year for various charities across Kingston.

Though these organizations are appreciated, many students feel as if they could do more to improve. Often, the events they host are overly crowded, and it can be an overwhelming experience. Especially for new students at Queen's who do not know many people. Hopefully in the future, more resources such as these will pop up on campus. Thus, easing the load of students attending the various events at Hillel and Chabad.

One of our participants, Emma Friedman, has provided us with some Photo Voice images. The two we have chosen to include detail her experience at both a Hillel and Chabad event. In Emma's own words. "the most important aspect of the Jewish resources on campus are their commitment to community. Being able to cook dinner for your friends, and meet Jewish families and their children in Kingston is such a special experience. It truly makes it all worth while. Judaism is not just a religion- it is a community and a way of life!"
